The Women’s Community Revitalization Project (WCRP)
is committed to social and economic justice for low-income women and
their families. We develop housing and neighborhood facilities; provide
supportive services; advocate for policy change; and honor leadership,
dignity, and equity in our communities.
When you start with women, you are at the core of communities and
families. There is power in women working together to make change. WCRP
has created a model that works for community development, putting that
power to work for low-income women and their families.

Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education. The mission of Arthur
Ashe Youth Tennis and Education (AAYTE) is "to create and promote
opportunities to improve the quality of life of young people through
tennis and education." To do so, AAYTE targets children ages four to
eighteen years, many from underserved, at-risk, multicultural
populations. Through recreation, academic and mentoring services, AAYTE
provides these youngsters with positive life lessons and teaches
important personal skills such as self-discipline, self-reliance, good
sportsmanship and non-violent conflict resolution, all in a
constructive, safe and nurturing environment.
AAYTE annually provides qualified instructors, equipment and positive
opportunities to more than 8,500 children, most of whom participate at
little or no cost through the AfterSchool and Community Programs, The
Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education Center indoor programs and the
National Junior Tennis League's outdoor summer program. Using tennis as
the vehicle, the programs teach positive, rewarding lessons, building
confidence and providing a framework of personal discipline. In
addition, AAYTE offers a safe haven for children during after-school
hours and summer breaks, when they are most vulnerable to drugs, crime
and violence.

Save The Bay
was
founded on the community’s desire to protect our most
precious
resource - Narragansett Bay. To do that, Save The Bay has focused on
the development of a committed constituency for the Bay. Children and
adults throughout this region have learned the tremendous value the Bay
brings to our economy, our environment and our quality of life.
In defense of Narragansett Bay and its watershed, Save The Bay has
watched over the activities and programs of the government and the
citizenry that degrade the environmental quality of the Bay, basin, and
watershed. Save The Bay provides educational opportunities for children
and adults to explore the Bay, fostering a understanding and a sense of
personal responsibility for the resource.
Save The Bay’s history is one of accomplishment for the Bay.
Once
choked by raw sewage and dying a slow death from industrial toxins, the
Bay is now making a comeback. There is still room for vast improvement,
but more people than ever before are able to swim, fish, sail and enjoy
the waters of Narragansett Bay. What follows is a timeline reflecting
Save The Bay’s history and charting important milestones we
have
achieved toward protecting Narragansett Bay.

Volunteers in Medicine
(VIM) began in Hilton Head, South Carolina. In 1992, one out of three
people who lived on Hilton Head Island had no access to health care. At
the same time, a number of retired medical personnel (physicians,
nurses, dentists) began expressing an interest in finding a way to
continue practicing their profession on a voluntary, part-time basis to
help those without access to care.
1
of 7 South Dakotans is at risk of going hungry! From the
homeless to senior citizens to our rural farming and ranching
communities, Community Food Banks of South Dakota are reaching out
across our community and state to meet the needs of the hungry.
Being so sparsely populated, South Dakota faces the challenge of
getting food to those in need. Through the advent of a rural delivery
system, we are able to get quality food into the hands of those who
need it in our most remote areas.
We are in a state where the number-one industry is agriculture, yet we
find a growing number of farm and ranch communities where the need for
assistance is on the increase. From the food producers themselves to
the small-town businesses and employees, the drought conditions have
hit hard an already struggling industry.
With a large population of very proud senior citizens, many of whom are
on fixed incomes, the need for assistance continues to climb. Rising
health care and prescription drug costs have caused many of these
individuals to choose between paying bills and buying food.
At the Community Food Banks of South Dakota, our goal has been and
always will be to do all that we can to help in the fight against
hunger in South Dakota.
The state of South Dakota is home to some of America's most scenic
landscapes, the Badlands, and also the home to the poorest people in
our nation.
We want to make your visit to the Lakota Sioux Nation as friendly as
possible because Lakota means "the friendly people." With
your help, NAHA can continue to support the Sioux people through
medical, food, fuel, and clothing programs.
